Dear Owen: Month One

Dear Owen:

Happy 1 month birthday little guy! Oh what a month it's been – mama's celebrating the milestone with a margarita tonight!

Your hospital stay was the defining moment of the month, but you've been doing great since. The time in the hospital showed us what a tough little dude you are. You were tested and pricked over and over. Each time you'd cry to let us know it hurt then you'd quickly put yourself to sleep. We tried to make you as comfortable as possible and hope you could feel our love through all the pain.

When we got home you were a screaming, non-sleeping machine. Luckily your big bro had already put us through these paces and we were able to quickly identify that your digestive system can't handle milk or eggs (just like his!). So, I now turn down yummy summer treats like ice cream and lobster rolls, but in return get a happy baby who only screams a little and likes to sleep all day.

Being baby #2 means you have certain advantages in life – most noteably more relaxed parents. But, please don't take my slowness in certain areas – things like writing your birth story or sending announcements – as any lack of love. It's purely a lack of time… As clearly evidenced by the giant dustballs collecting everywhere and lack of blog posts, it's been hard for your parents to find time for much else other than caring for our two boys.

I'm looking forward to spending another month home with you before I have to go back to work. Summer maternity leave is pretty great – we get to go for walks and hang out outside every day. Let's have a nice relaxing month, free of drama, and full of bonding!

Love, Mom

PS – You look just like your brother… just with a few extra rolls and chins!
